How to open more than one command prompt in Windows 8

  • In Microsoft Windows 8 if you are opening a new command prompt window from the Start Screen by typing "cmd" and already have one command prompt window open it will return to the open window.
    To open more than one command prompt window in Windows 8 or Windows 8.1, open the command prompt from the Windows Power User Task Menu. To open the Power User Task Menu either press the shortcut key Windows key + X or right-click in the very bottom left-hand corner of the screen.
    If done properly you should see the Power User Task Menu similar to the example shown in the picture below. In this menu choose either the Command Prompt or Command Prompt (Admin) depending on your needs.
